The Elopement Outfit Isn't a Wedding Dress
You are not walking down a ballroom aisle. Your outfit does not need to act like you are.
Somewhere along the way, wedding dress became one thing: full skirt, long train, months of alterations for a walk that takes less than two minutes. That equation made sense when weddings were built around a grand entrance. Elopements are not. There is no long aisle to fill, no back row that needs to read the dress from across a room. So the dress can change too.
This year the shift is obvious. Skirt suits standing in for gowns. Slip dresses in colour instead of white. Cropped jackets, mini silhouettes, pieces that were clearly chosen because they fit the person wearing them, not because tradition said they had to. And more couples are picking things they will actually wear again. A blazer that goes back into rotation. A dress you would happily wear to a friend's wedding next year. Nothing packed away in a box.
That is the part I love photographing most. Not a costume, a person. When your outfit already feels like you, the photos do too. That is the whole idea behind an elopement in the first place.
